Puebla

The photo provided I think is myself as an artist at my most authentic! Artist since youth :)!

Artist: Lia Carlos Hernandez

Artist statement:

My heritage was a hard thing to grasp or understand growing up. I am part of 2 different cultures that are typically against each other, so it can be hard to fit in. Despite all, I’m learning that it’s okay to appreciate the things I’ve grown up and known no matter what others may think of me.  Watsonville is a beautiful mixture of the two cultures I’ve loved and knew growing up, and it is home to many people like me who don’t know what category they fit in. Watsonville is a place where we are breeding and growing a new kind of mixed culture, evident in the art and community. Being a public artist feels like a fancy word. Most of the time, I’m just having fun in my room, but to know I’ve accomplished something greater with my creativity is amazing, and to have it linked to myself makes it even better.
