Roundabout Clifford Ave. Project

 

The purpose of this proposed artwork is to both beautify the area and to help slow down traffic.

Proposed artwork for the Clifford Ave. Roundabout are three free-standing scalloped topped stelae. The designs will be executed by a local artist to be selected by the donor. The artists will create 6 images, of a bear, a rabbit and a coyote, tule elk, frog and egret/heron. The neighborhood community will be given an opportunity to weigh in on which three of the six designs they prefer. The backside will be an abstract design that reflects native American or Filipino patterns. Each of these animals once lived in the region, and the proximity to the Slough is part of the inspiration for these choices. The artist will be instructed to consult with the local native tribe for permission to use the local tribal band (design) as part of the design feature for the stelae.

 

The mosaics will be fabricated at the Muzzio mosaic arts center.

Size: Each will be 72” across by 36” tall, and 4” in depth.

Materials: Steel frame, concrete skinned foam board inserts covered with mosaics. 

A structural engineer will be consulted for the dimensions of the footings and armature.
