Iraq

Artist: Fadya Hadi

I am pleased to have been a part of this project to co-create a piece inspired by the history of where I come from, the ancient land of the Tigris and the Euphrates (Mesopotamia) modern day Iraq. There isn’t a lot of representation around to show the beauty and the importance of this historical land where the first civilization thought to have started, so I am hoping to give some idea of the mythology and the mystery associated with it and bring a feeling of love for this magical place aside from all the destruction it has endured.

Fadya is an Iraqi artist born and raised in Iraq and came to the United States in 2009. She was born in a family of artists from her parents to extended family members. Since a child she has created art from drawings to dolls clothing and more. In 2011 she attended Academy of Art University in San Francisco. In the past 10 years Fadya has been an artist and resident of the city of Santa Cruz. She is a multimedia artist who is heavily influenced by music, fashion and culture. Her aesthetic is a combination of dark alternative subculture and ancient cultures and histories from around the world.
