Brianna Flores

My culture and my heritage are a huge part of who I am and how I identify myself in this world. It ties me to my past, present, and future. To those who came before me and the sacrifices that they made that allow me to live and experience this life as beautifully as I do. It is in how I honor them and myself each day and the legacy I will leave the next generation. I am proud to be Latina and I am proud to be Mexican. I am proud to have roots in Guanajuato and Durango. Being raised in Watsonville heavily influences that pride. I will always be from Watsonville no matter how far I go. There is a sense of comfort knowing that I can always come home and Watsonville will be here.

I don’t know if I’d consider myself a public artist. I don’t know if I’m worthy of the title – because it is such an honor to share a piece of myself with my hometown. The city that raised me as a youth and has allowed me to continue to grow as an adult. It is meaningful to be a part of a project that encapsulates that sense of community pride we share and celebrates us all.
