Capitola Wharf Donor Wall

About a year in advance of our wharf reopening a small group of citizens gathers to raise funds for the “extras” on the wharf that the city was not able to fund.  We hoped for $250,000 and raised upwards of $450,000.  The support was amazing.  We were able to provide new light standards, tables, benches, viewing telescopes, bike racks, a new entry gate and a bronze art installation with 40 bas relief sea creatures that will be imbedded into the wharf planks.

One of our most prized contributions was our mosaic donor wall.  The help we got from Kathleen and Muzzio made it possible to envision the process via public input, to actually create the mosaic panels in a public space provided by the Capitola Mall.  Dozens of people came to the mall every week for 3 months, working side by side, learning the process and creating a whole new community.

More coming soon…
