Artist statement:
My cultural heritage is an important part of how I see the world. It has valuable meaning in my daily life and in the way I relate to my art and what surrounds me. It means resilience, identity and love, which has passed from generation to generation and that today I make present not only to myself but to my ancestors. Watsonville for me has been a place of reunion and identity. By migrating to Watsonville I found my authenticity and what makes me me because of my cultural heritage. This city has been part of who I am and I have found myself, more proud than ever of my roots. Here I found inspiration and strength thanks to the community. -Julia Ramos
Mi herencia cultural es parte importante sobre como veo el mundo. Tiene un significado valioso en mi día a día y en la manera que yo me relaciono con mi arte y lo que me rodea. Significa resiliencia, identidad y amor, que ha pasado de generación en generación y que hoy en día hago presente ni solo a mi pero a mis ancestros. Watsonville para mi ha sido un lugar de reencuentro e identidad. Al migrar a Watsonville yo encontré mi autenticidad y lo que me hace yo por mi herencia cultural. Esta ciudad ha formado parte de lo que soy y a encontrarme a mi misma, más orgullosa que nunca de mis raíces. Aquí encontré , inspiración y fortaleza gracias a la comunidad. – Julia Ramos
