Tikkun Olam
Artist: Heidi Alonzo
The Tree of Life is an important motif in the Hebrew Bible and a symbol that is found in various cultures around the world, depicted in myths, philosophies, folklore, and religions. The Tree of Life represents stability, growth, and a connection to future generations.
In Hebrew the phrase Tikkun Olam means “repairing the world,” a central principle in Judaism that people have a moral obligation to improve the world and heal our communities and our earth. The Jewish holiday Tu B’Shevat emphasizes the importance of the natural environment. Tu B’Shevat is deeply rooted in the concept of Tikkun Olam. A core practice during this holiday is to plant trees, an action to repair and cool the planet.
We are grateful to talented artists Kathleen Crocetti, Heidi Alonzo, and Watsonville Brilliante team for bringing our Tikkun Olam Tree to Life!
