Farmworker Project
Nature Center Project | Farmworker
The Mission of Community Arts & Empowerment is to empower the community through the arts. This project is specifically meant to empower the farmworker community of the Pajaro Valley.
Is Watsonville really the city that loves farm workers? Probably not any more than any other city that has a large agricultural worker population. Our artwork offers an opportunity to be a catalyst for transformation, to say out loud “Watsonville is the city that loves farm workers” is an affirmation, and an impetus for change.
We live in the most fertile and productive agricultural region on the planet. Food grown here in the Pajaro Valley travels far and wide to feed other people, and yet we have food insecurity in our Valley. The people most likely to be experiencing food insecurity are the very same people who are picking our food. 100% of the proceeds from the sales of these small mosaics go towards one of three non-profit organizations that support farmworker families in our valley.
Those interested in making a donation and receiving a mosaic in return are welcome to come by the Muzzio Mosaic Arts Center during our open hours or to send us an email indicating which image you would like to receive as a gift in return for making a donation to one of the three nonprofits we are supporting: the Community Action Board of Santa Cruz County, Raíces y Cariño, and the Center for Farm Worker Families.
